Helvetia Group in Italy

Helvetia has been operating in Italy as an all-line insurer with four companies since 1948. In the non-life segment, Helvetia is one of the 30 leading insurance companies in Italy, but it is a comparatively minor player in the life segment.

Non-life business is handled by Helvetia Assicurazioni, head office for Italy. With the purchase of Padana Assicurazioni in 2008, Helvetia strengthened its position in the Italian non-life market and gained access to the approximately 40,000 employees of the ENI Group.

The acquisition of Chiara Vita S.p.A. (also in 2008) and the resulting cooperation with Banco di Desio e della Brianza S.p.A. gave Helvetia access to the bank sales channels, which cover around 60 percent of the Italian life market. Together with Helvetia Vita S.p.A., the company is a strong force in the life business.

Geographically, the operating activities focus on the economically interesting provinces in the north of the country. Helvetia Italy employs around 360 people. As well as the head office in Milan, there are various claims inspectorates, for example in Florence, Genoa, Rome and Verona, to name but a few.

The agency network has expanded constantly in the last few years. In addition to 300 non-exclusive non-life agencies and around 350 agents selling life products, more than 100 employees and financial intermediaries also form part of this relationship. Helvetia Italy serves almost 400,000 customers.
