Protection forest: com­bating natural disasters

Protection forests are an important measure to safeguard against damage caused by natural forces such as rock falls, landslides, avalanches and mudslides. Often natural rejuvenation is not sufficient to secure this protection for the long term. That’s why Helvetia has been committed to improving the living environment of Switzerland since 2011, planting around 10,000 trees per year in each of two different regions in cooperation with the cantonal forestry authorities.

Your contribution to Switzerland’s protection forest

Why not give your family, friends, loved ones, business partners or even yourself an original, lasting gift? For CHF 10.00 you can order a personal protection forest certificate for your chosen region among those we support. For each certificate another tree – in addition to our existing commitment – will be planted by the forestry authorities in separately allocated areas.

Helvetia’s commitment to protection forests has led to reforestation in the following areas:

Engadin (GR)

In 2011, 10,000 trees were planted in St. Moritz in cooperation with the Graubünden cantonal forestry authorities.

Berner Oberland (BE)

In 2012, 10,000 trees were planted in 18 regions of the Bernese Oberland.

Oberwallis (VS)

As the second reforestation project in 2012, the area above Visp (VS), where a devastating forest fire destroyed the protection forest, was reforested.

Around the Rigi (SZ)

In 2013, 10,000 trees were planted in five areas around the Rigi.
