Julia Nötzli was born in Basel in 1991 and grew up in the city. After earning a bilingual German-English high-school degree, she went on to study at University of Zurich. She completed her Bachelor's degree in social sciences with a major in popular cultures and minors in history and ethics. After a two-month volunteer period on an HIV-awareness project in South Africa, she wrote her Bachelor's paper on this topic. She is passionate about intercultural understanding, southern Africa, languages, religions and social media. In April 2017 she commenced a one-year internship at Helvetia in Basel, where she assists the intranet team, writes stories for the Helvetia website and dreams now and then of Africa.
