Converting to 100 per cent renewable electricity

Helvetia’s electricity use causes a substantial portion of our CO2 emissions. We were able to further improve our ecological footprint by converting to green electricity.

At the head offices in Basel and St. Gallen, Helvetia has been purchasing 100 per cent renewable power straight from the local electricity provider for a long time. As a tenant, Helvetia often has little influence on the quality of the power that is consumed. That is why we subsequently purchase guarantees of origin for «green» power at smaller locations as a compensation measure for conventional power and can thus say that our electricity is completely supplied by renewable sources. Helvetia had the correctness and legitimacy of this procedure audited by an independent auditor.

"Green power" or "green electricity” is power that comes from 100 per cent renewable sources such as water, the sun, biomass and wind. Guarantees of origin (GO) certify the origin.

Since 2016, Helvetia has been a member of the RE100 initiative , a global alliance of over 130 companies who have committed themselves to only using power from renewable sources. In autumn 2016, Helvetia achieved its goal of being the first all-lines insurance company in Switzerland to convert completely to green electricity.
