In the youth insurance you can choose between four sums insured for your household contents: CHF 10,000, 20,000, 30,000, 40,000, 50,000 or 60,000.
You cannot choose a greater sum insured in the youth insurance unless you conclude our standard product household contents insurance.
It makes sense to prepare a precise breakdown of your entire household contents (furnishings, household appliances, electronics, hobby, leisure, travel, sports, collections, etc.). On top of this sum insured, you can add 10% for new purchases so that you don't always have to adjust the sum insured immediately.
In the youth insurance you can choose between the following sums insured: CHF 10,000, 20,000, 30,000, 40,000, 50,000 or 60,000. If your sum insured is greater than CHF 60,000 then the household contents insurance must be concluded as the standard product.
What happens if the sum insured is lower than the value of my household contents that I have to replace as a result of damage (cover shortage)?
If your sum insured is too low, there is a gap in your insurance coverage. That means that in the event of damages, you may not be able to replace your entire household contents. You should therefore review the value of your household contents regularly so that you are always sufficiently insured. In case of damage caused by natural forces, the compensation will be reduced accordingly (see also underinsurance).
The basic insurance comprises the following elements: household contents, private liability, Assistance and legal expenses insurance. You can also conclude numerous supplementary cover options, such as external driver insurance or disability cover. All the elements, including those in the basic insurance, can be concluded individually or in combination. You put together the benefits you want, and thereby conclude your own personal youth insurance.
You can conclude the youth insurance from your fourteenth birthday until shortly before your twenty-fifth birthday. You can conclude a policy while still living with your parents (your parents don't have to be insured with Helvetia) or once you have already moved out.
The youth insurance is a supplement to your parents' policy and is designed as provisional insurance for when you move out of the family home. When moving out of home, insurance probably won't be the first thing on your mind. However, if you already have a policy (e.g. for household contents and private liability), then you will already be insured at the new address, even if you don't report your change of address immediately.
You can also insure various risks as part of the youth insurance, which are not covered or not insured under your parents' policy. These include, for example, mobile phone insurance (theft), comprehensive travel insurance for all trips throughout the year or the reimbursement of concert or season tickets, etc.
You can conclude the youth insurance until one day before your twenty-fifth birthday at the latest, but you can benefit from this attractive premium up until your twenty-eighth birthday. This means you benefit from the youth rate for three extra years!
