Green Card

Green Card
The Green Card is an international insurance certificate. When you travel abroad in your car, the Green Card proves that your car has adequate liability insurance.

In which countries is a Green Card mandatory?

If you are planning a trip to one of the following countries you must have your Green Card with you:

  • Albania
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Israel
  • Morocco
  • Macedonia
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • Tunisia
  • Turkey
  • Ukraine

In which countries is it not necessary to have the insurance Green Card with you?

The Green Card does not have to be carried in any of the EU/EEA states or in Andorra or Serbia. Swiss policyholders automatically have adequate motor vehicle liability cover in these countries. The insurance bureaus of these countries have signed the so-called registration plates convention, so the registration plate counts as proof of insurance in these countries.

However, a Green Card can be useful in any case in the event of an accident abroad. It contains important details about the vehicle and its insurance, and makes it easier to complete the formalities.

In which countries is the Green Card not valid?

Helvetia’s liability insurance is not valid in the following countries: Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Iran. You can also easily recognize this by the fact that these countries are crossed out on the Green card.

The special case of Kosovo: The Green Card is not accepted in Kosovo. On entry to the country, motor liability border insurance must be taken out at the border. If you have taken out partially or fully comprehensive insurance, this is valid in Kosovo.

How long is a Green Card valid for?

The Green Card is valid for a limited period and it can be reordered free of charge from Helvetia at any time.
