Helvetia’s commitment to the environment goes beyond its own business ecology, with activities aligned systematically to its core business. Therefore, it has provided support for protection forest projects since 2011. Protection forests are mountain forests that offer protection against rockfall, landslides and avalanches. Steep woodlands outside mountain regions also have a protective function.
Helvetia is the official partner of the Alpine Protection Forest Award presented by the Consortium of Alpine Forestry Associations. The aim of the consortium is to remedy cross-regional and cross-border forestry problems in the Alpine region.
Together with the World Demographic & Ageing Forum (WDA Forum) and the University of St. Gallen, Helvetia presents the Erich Walser Generations Prize to people and organizations that work to promote and improve understanding between generations. The prize covers all areas of community life: politics, business, culture, sport, civil society, etc. The prize is awarded every three years – at an international event hosted by the WDA Forum in St.Gallen. On 27 August 2019, the prize will be awarded to Carla Del Ponte.
