When can I actually cancel my insurance?

To the end of the insurance year

If no annual right of cancellation was agreed, you may cancel the contract to the end of the third insurance year or of each subsequent insurance year. Life insurance is excluded.

Good to know

Your notice of cancellation must reach your insurer no later than the last day of the cancellation period. You can find information about the cancellation period in your policy or the Standard Terms of Insurance (STI).

In the event of a claim

Have you received a payment or other benefit from your insurance company after a claim? In this case you can also switch your insurance.

Good to know

Generally your notice of cancellation must reach your insurer no later than 14 days after receipt of notification of the payment. You can find the information in the Standard Terms of Insurance (STI).

In the event of a premium increase

If your premium is raised for the subsequent year you can generally also switch your insurance.

Your notice of cancellation must reach your insurer no later than the last day of the current insurance year.

Change of registered owner

In the event of a change of registered owner, e.g. if a property is purchased, the insurance contract is transferred to the new owner. You can then decide if you wish to continue the existing insurance or if you prefer to switch.

If you decide on a change, the cancellation must reach your insurer within 30 days of the change of ownership.

Change of vehicle owner

The motor vehicle liability insurance is transferred to the new owner. As the new owner, you can decide if you wish to continue the existing insurance or if you prefer to switch.

Good to know

The existing contract lapses if a vehicle registration document is issued to you on the basis of motor vehicle liability insurance with another insurance company.

Change of vehicle

If you change your car, the insurance contract is transferred to the new owner. You can then decide if you wish to continue the existing insurance or if you prefer to switch.

Good to know

Any unused portion of the premium you paid in advance is refunded.
