Apprenticeship as a media technologist AFC

The four-year apprenticeship in media technology prepares you professionally for the various aspects of communications technology.

What awaits you in the apprenticeship as a media technologist AFC

The course begins in August and can be taken as either profile E or profile M. As a media technologist, you will work in the fields of communication, marketing and web design. During your apprenticeship, you will acquire a wide variety of skills that will open up various job opportunities in your professional life.

Variety in your day-to-day work

During your apprenticeship as a media technologist, you will work in various different fields of communications technology. Your main tasks will include designing websites and presentations, as well as looking after a wide variety of events. You will also produce short film sequences, audio recordings and photos, and will work with a variety of programs. You will broaden your knowledge of social media, design, marketing, information technology and administration. Through these various activities, you will acquire a diverse and extensive knowledge base.

Education, practice, networking, fun – with us, you'll never be bored.

Your first two years of training are external foundation years, which you will spend outside Helvetia (Basel: BiCT in Bern and St.Gallen: SBW in Romanshorn). During these foundation years you will learn the basics using real projects, in preparation for your practical duties within the company. During the second foundation year, you can apply to spend your third and fourth years at Helvetia, putting into practice what you have learned. For added variety in your day-to-day work at Helvetia, there will be various events such as the StartCamp, and you will take part in the General Assembly and different workshops.

Help design your own apprenticeship

Our modular structure allows you to design your apprenticeship to suite your own interests. Here’s how it works: Some modules are compulsory and others are optional. So if you want to be a bit more creative, for example, you can apply your digital native know-how to a social media project. Or if you fancy improving your foreign language skills, you can spend a few months in a different language region abroad or in Switzerland as part of your apprenticeship. But even the compulsory modules still leave room for fun! For example, there’s the Start Camp, an event you take part in with other apprentices from all over Switzerland, or opportunities to focus on a specific theme in the context of your working and learning situation. We offer a wide range of courses because we recognize the importance of enabling you to help design your apprenticeship individually according to your personal interests and strengths.
